Greetings...
I recently decided that in 2008, I was going to do something epic.
For years now, I have more than indulged myself with movies. I plan my already busy schedule around watching one (almost) every night, I frequent Best Buy to see what needs to be added to my collection, and I visit the theaters far more than most people should.
Which got me thinking. This summer, I kept track of all the movie's I watched in the theaters. 17. This number, while shocking to some, pales in comparison to the previous summer, where I believe I hit somewhere between 25 and 30. That's about 7 a month, or almost 2 a week. Now, during the non-summer months, it goes down significantly. So I would be willing to say, my personal best is right around 45 movies in one year. Not bad, considering the average American sees seven movies in a year.
Life is about always doing more than what you previously had, so I decided to make a bold goal. In the year 2008, I am going to more than double my personal best. I am going to watch 100 movies in the theaters.
It's fairly straight forward, but I have decided on one major guideline. That is, I am only going to count 2008 releases. I will not be able to count 2007's leftovers. While this will only hinder my quest, I am being very strict in this.
This will be how I chronicle my epic journey. I plan on writing a brief review of each movie I see. I don't plan on going too in depth, but don't quote me on it. I also plan on keeping some stats of the whole quest. I am going to keep a running count of time in the theaters, based on all of the movies run times. I also plan on keeping track of how much I spend on the whole ordeal. The last thing is I plan on making an ever-changing Top Ten list for the year.
So I hope you all join me on my saga. Some may stand (sit really) beside me in the battlefield I call the Cinema, others may just be humble followers of my tale. I have 366 (Leap Year) days to see 100 movies.
See you in January...
